December, 2016

Asalaamualaikum,
An-Noor Middle School Debate Team participated in second debate tournament of the 2016-2017 school year. This debate was unique and challenging in that it combined two debate leagues, our Garden State Debate League with Jersey Shore Debate League; adding up to fifty teams from fifteen different school across New Jersey. Schools there included Catholic schools, Blue Ribbon Public Schools, and preparatory academies. The assertions being debated were; 1) Build the Dakota Access Pipeline, 2) The Trans-Pacific Partnership is good for the United States, 3) The US should NOT colonize Mars, 4) and Autonomous (Self-Driving) cars do more good than harm. Our team consisting of Huzaifa Ansari, Haaris Subhani, and Haaris Syed won ALL FOUR of the debates they argued. Our team consisting of Dania Ali, Shurafa Thowfeeq, and Yaseen Zahir won three out of four debates they argued. Our team consisting of Nazmeen Abbasi, Ainoor Ali, and Zaynab Khan won two out of the four debates they argued. Making our school total nine wins out of twelve debates we argued.

With one hundred and fifty students there, and An-Noor represented by only nine of those, our students were up against impossible odds, but our debate team is the epitome of "grace under fire" MashaAllah (May Allah subhanatallah protect them always In sha Allah and ameen)! Two of our teams managed Top Positions; Our team consisting of Dania Ali, Shurafa Thowfeeq, and Yaseen Zahir won the Top Twelfth position, while our team consisting of Huzaifa Ansari, Haaris Subhani, and Haaris Syed won the Top Fourth Position! That's not all! Our student Huzaifa Ansari won the Top speaker of School plaque, while Haaris Syed won the FIRST PLACE at Tournament Gavel! That means Haaris beat the other one hundred and forty nine kids there! We felt like we were on top of the world, but there was even more to come! MashaAllah An-Noor as a whole won the SECOND PLACE position at the competitive tournament winning over 75% of the debates they argued! This is a feat without a doubt as the aforementioned topics being debated there were those that even adults surely would not comprehend! For our middle schoolers to not only understand, but become experts on these is in itself an exemplary endeavor!

Congratulations to the students, parents, and all of the staff at An-Noor Academy, especially Sr. Pothina Ghazy for stepping in and being a debate judge at the tournament. May all success be ours InshaAllah in this world and the hereafter! JazakaAllah Khayran for all the support and encouragement!

Sincerely,
Sr. Ambreen Ahmad

An-Noor Debate Team: 4th place in the NATION!

posted Mar 20, 2016, 8:56 AM by Hammad Mahmood   [ updated Apr 19, 2016, 11:45 AM by Amel Khalil ]

An-Noor Debate Team as a whole was awarded the top 4th place in State of NJ among fifty other teams!!!!!!!

AsSalaamu Alaikum,

It is my pleasure to report yet another success for An-Noor Academy's Debate Team MashaAllah! We had our third tournament (state finals) today and MashaAllah I am extremely ecstatic to report that it was yet another achievement! With over fifty teams there, our students were up against improbable odds, but MashaAllah our debate team is unflappable and motivated, as the results proved subhanAllah!!

With just two tournament under our belt, and it being our very first year in the league, we were still quite green and the students knew that it would be a daunting task as all of the schools participating were those that have been doing it for at least ten plus years. I had told the students to try their best, and that to remember that it was the experience not the accolades that was our primary objective. Surprisingly though, I was floored by the results during and after the close of the debates.

One group of three students from our school managed to win one of the Top positions, Eleventh Place, and received medals, out of the fifty one different teams there! That means they beat out forty different teams (a total one hundred and twenty kids)! Ameerat Bisiolu, Ahmad Musa Insannaly, and Huzaifa Ansari managed to be top debaters MashaAllah and defeated 78% of the students present mashaAllah! Additionally, Zahra Arsalan was awarded the top speaker plaque MashaAllah! Moreover, much to my pleasant surprise An-Noor's Debate Team as a whole was awarded the top 4th in State Position as a school MashaAllah!! As predicted, we are now officially an Award Winning School MashaAllah! It was an amazing day to say the least!

Congratulations to the students, parents, and all of the staff at An-Noor Academy! We will be having our Nationals on Saturday, April 16th InshaAllah at Stone Bridge Middle School in Allentown, NJ. I will be choosing six to nine top debaters InshaAllah in the coming week as we will be debating on proposition or opposition (unknown until 15-20 minutes before the debate) on six different topics! Please do pray for the success of our students InshaAllah and Ameen! May all success be ours InshaAllah in this world and the hereafter! Jazakum Allah Khayran for all the support and encouragement!

Sincerely,

Masha-Allah! An-Noor Debate Team Gains Success Again

posted Feb 20, 2016, 8:08 AM by Hammad Mahmood   [ updated Feb 20, 2016, 8:08 AM ]

An-Noor debate team gains success again MashaAllah! We had our second tournament and MashaAllah I am extremely ecstatic to report that it was another achievement! An-Noor students competed with students from nine different schools; two Catholic schools, four preparatory academies (whose tuition ranges from 15-20K per student per year!), one school from a prestigious blue ribbon district with an infinite budget, and the regional champions who won national debate competition last year! Each school was represented by at least five to ten different teams (15 to 30 kids) while An-Noor was represented by only four teams of three kids (only 12 kids)! With probability like that many would be discouraged, but MashaAllah our debate team is unflappable!

With just one tournament under our belt we were still green and the students knew that it would be a daunting task as all of the schools participating were those that have been doing it for at least ten plus years. I had told the students to try their best, and that to remember that it was the experience not the accolades that was our primary objective. Surprisingly though, I was floored by the results during and after the close of the debates.

One group of three students from our school managed to win one of the Top position, Eleventh Place, and received medals, out of the thirty six different teams there! That means they beat out twenty five different teams (a total seventy five kids)! Ameerat Bisiolu, Huda Saleh, and Amina Arsalan, and managed to be top debaters mashaallah amongst almost 2/3rds of the schools and students there. Moreover our three teams won seven out of sixteen debates, almost half of the debates MashaAllah! Additionally, Shurafa Thowfeeq was awarded the top speaker plaque again MashaAllah! Ameerat Bisiolu, Huda Saleh, Amina Arsalan wind three out of four of their debates! Huzaifa Ansari, Ahmad Musa Insannaly, Mahmoud Gailani won two out of four of their debates!Shurafa Thowfeeq, Arwa Arsalan, and Zahra Arsalan won two out of four of their debates! Even sixth graders Ainoor Ali, Dania Ali, and Rezwana Sarder won one out of four debates! MashaAllah it was an amazing day to say the least!

Congratulations to the students, parents, and all of the staff at An-Noor Academy! May all success be ours InshaAllah in this world and the hereafter!

Jazakum Allah Khayran for all the support and encouragement!

The students enrolled in this program have excelled in all academic classes as well as became Huffaz. This program has produced 43 Huffaz over the past years.
  4. Advanced Placement and Supplemental Classes for High School Students: Our High school students are offered AP courses in Chemistry, Math as well as Public Speaking classes to become critical thinkers and advance their career.
  5. Standardized Test Score: Our students have scored high marks in TerraNova test and our average SAT score is 1858 which is one of the best among all Islamic and Private schools. The average is about 350 points higher than National and State average and it places our students in 85th percentile i.e. among the top 15% students in the Nation.
  6. ECL Campus: The separate campus provides our young children an environment where they get stimulating education in a friendly and cooperative atmosphere. This creates academic excellence from the start and encourage children to explore and become confident achievers in the classroom and beyond.
  7. Student/Teacher Ratio: Our students/teacher ratio at the school is 6:1 which is very low and ensures proper learning at all levels.
