Department Head for Math and Science

An-Noor Academy, an Islamic school in Piscataway, NJ, seeks a skilled instructional leader to assume the position of Department Head for Math and Science. The candidate will be responsible for leading teachers in the implementation of curriculum and instructional practices that result in exceptional student achievement and teaching.  The department head will assist in the research and implementation of best practices in curriculum and instruction, and work for targeted professional development.


ABOUT AN-NOOR ACADEMY

An-Noor Academy is a vibrant educational institution of academic and character learning, established in 2000. The school serves about 400 students from Pre-School to 12th grade and is well positioned to grow further.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Curriculum

  • Models and assists teachers in modifying and differentiating to meet the needs of the individual learner.

  • Assists in teacher training and meets with teachers regularly.


Instructional Practice

  • Researches, recommends and assists with implementation of methodologies and practices that lead to high student engagement and achievement.

  • Orients teachers and provides ongoing professional development for assigned teachers.

  • Observes, mentors and holds accountable assigned teachers regarding best practices in instruction.

  • Promotes instructional practices that are modified and differentiated to meet the needs of the individual learner.

  • Assists in facilitating the integration and use of instructional technology, as appropriate.

  • Assists in planning the professional development program for faculty.

  • Teaches math or science class(es)


Culture

  • Serves as a mentor and role model in the creation of a learning environment that supports college readiness and student achievement.

  • Assists in planning and delivering orientation for new teachers.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education

  • Master’s Degree (or higher) in math and/or science subject(s)


Experience

  • At least three years of demonstrated, successful experience as a teacher at the Middle School/High School

  • Experience working in Islamic School (Preferred).


Other Considerations

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Proficient in the use of technology in student instruction

  • Knowledge of Middle and High School curriculum and instruction standards and best practices

  • Passion for quality education and high expectations for all students

  • Possess legal authorization to work in the US
