Dr. Nora Salem, EdD (Head of School)

Sr. Nora is an organized and effective leader with vast classroom and administrative experience combined with strong curriculum development, teacher evaluation, implementation of meaningful learning environment, strong emphasis on standards and skill-based grading, and proven ability to cultivate an intellectual workplace among faculty and students.

Sr. Nora earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science & Secondary Education from Brooklyn College, NY. She earned her master’s degree in Literacy Education from St. John’s University, NY. She further earned her Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University, PA.

Sr. Nora has been an educator since 1991. With over 26 years in the education field, she served school districts in the New York and New Jersey areas as well as international schools abroad. Sr. Nora served in many administrative roles including curriculum and instruction specialist, principal, and director.

Sh. Mohammed Chowdhury (Director of Tahfeez)

Mawlana Muhammad Chowdhury is a Cleveland, Ohio native. After attaining his high-school diploma, his thirst for ‘Ilm propelled him to pursue the higher calling of sacred knowledge and thus he devoted years in an authentic and rigorous curriculum of the sacred sciences. During this period he was conferred with several ijazat (Formalized Authorization/Degree) surpassing the equivalent of a Masters degree, in the Islamic sciences including: Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, Hadith, Usul al-Hadith, Tafsir, Usul al-Tafsir, Arabic Grammar, Morphology, Rhetoric, History and Spirituality. During these years of study, he was also conferred with ijazah in the most famous and authentic texts of Hadith including the Sahih of Imam al-Bukhari and all of the Sihah Sittah, the 6 most authentic compendiums of Hadith.

After completing the rigorous and famed dars nizami curriculum and being granted the shahadah alamiyyah (recognition of Islamic scholarship), Mawlana Muhammad began studying the sciences of the heart focusing on tazkiyyah and tarbiyyah. Being granted the mantle of authorization to teach and transmit these sciences he returned to Ohio and immersed himself in teaching, Imamat, and community work. In 2013, Mawlana Muhammad moved to New Jersey and is currently the Director and Alim-course instructor at Darul Huda Institute for Tahfeez al Qur’an. He is also the Amir and Instructor at Darul Hidayah Institute in Teaneck, New Jersey where he teaches classes of Tafsir, Spirituality, Seerah, Aqidah and Arabic Grammar. He is fluent in Arabic, English and Urdu.

Samina Rathore (Director of ECL )

Sr. Samina Rathore has been a primary teacher for the past 25 years in Grades Pre-K, 1, and 3. She has taught Pre-K for the past 15 consecutive years and has been one of the pioneers when An-Noor Academy first started. She was promoted to Assistant Principal in 2010 and then to Interim Principal in 2015 at An-Noor Academy.

Currently, Ms. Rathore is serving as Director of Early Childhood Learning (ECL program) at An-Noor. Her expansive knowledge and long-term experience working with primary students facilitates a holistic and structured approach to early childhood education. She hopes that her teaching pedagogy will enable students to find themselves as global citizens who will connect to and better themselves, the community, and the world. Through experiential learning, Ms. Rathore hopes to instill and reinforce values of compassion and peace as well as develop religious and spiritual values in her students.

In her free time, Ms. Rathore likes to volunteer at the masjid and to travel to visit family. She especially looks forward to visiting her 2 grandsons in Singapore and/or Jakarta, Indonesia.

Farah Ahmed (School Accountant)

Sr. Farah Ahmed began her employment with An-Noor Academy in July, 2009. She is responsible for timely tuition collection, follow-up with tuition, payroll report submission, invoice generation, handling fundraiser donations and any general inquiries regarding paychecks for staff and general tuition and fees' inquiries from parents. She graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. She majored in Finance and Management Information Science. She previously worked for Noor-ul-Iman, AIG, Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, and Liberty Mutual. She likes reading, soccer, traveling, and nihari.
